Jennifer Waldo

Mini Biography:

A lifelong writer and photographer, Jennifer began her career working in the documentary/educational film industry of her hometown, Washington, DC. Wanting to hone her skills as a filmmaker, Jennifer spent three years earning her MFA in Film Production at USC’s School of Cinema-Television where she won the Edward Small Directing Scholarship for her existentialist film ROOM 119 and wrote and directed her 35mm USC graduate thesis film (2006). In addition to writing and directing, Jennifer produced several graduate thesis films including the festival favorite (2003), (2004), (2005), as well as the independent short The End Of It All. Jennifer is also proud to have contributed to the A.C.E.-sponsored HD documentary (2004).After graduating USC in the spring of 2004, Jennifer’s thesis film Searching for Angels (2006) screened at the Director’s Guild in Los Angeles as part of the April 2006 First Look Festival. Her romantic comedy screenplay “Honeymoon Adventurers” was selected as a “Screwball Comedy” Finalist in the Broad Humor Screenplay Contest in July 2006 and her recently completed feature-length script adaptation of “Searching for Angels” was a quarter-finalist in the 2008 American Zoetrope Screenplay Contest. This past November 2008, Jennifer won the “NaNoWriMo” writing challenge. For National Novel Writing Month, authors strive to write 50,000 words of a novel from the 1st through the 30th. Jennifer’s novel “Soulmates” won with just over 85,000 words.Jennifer has been producing, directing, shooting, editing, and sound designing all her latest productions. Her short documentary “Everything Begins at B.I.R.T.H.” explores a non-profit organization founded by midwives, B.I.R.T.H., which puts on an annual Fair to educate the community about pregnancy, birthing, and parenting options and to showcase local resources in the Houston, Texas area. Jennifer most recently finished an 8-part video series about a non-profit parent-cooperative Montessori School where each video showcases a teacher’s classroom. An additional video, commemorating the School’s 30th Anniversary, was commissioned for the Annual Gala Fundraiser.Jennifer is a board member of the SouthWest Alternate Media Project, one of the oldest film organizations in the U.S. and based in Houston, and a member of Women in Film in Los Angeles, California.
